How GREAT is your God?

November 2nd, 2009

I heard something interesting today and I have to share…

Science has amassed great knowledge, and a particular piece of this knowledge is estimating the number of stars we know about. There are 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 (1 sextillion) stars in our universe. This number is astronomical (yeah, I know, pun intended,) let me try to make it a little simpler…

There are enough stars for every one of the over 6 billion people on earth to have 160 billion of their own!

That is an amazing thing to know! The number of stars you can call “your own” is probably even more, since light has not reached us from the edge of the universe yet, these are the probable number of stars we know about.

But, can I tell you something even more astounding?

God, yes the God of the Bible created it all. Everything you see in nature is here because of His handiwork. He has named ALL of them. And yet He knows you so well, He can count the number of hairs on your head. Think about it… the distance between the Earth and Moon takes us days to travel, yet in the entire universe, God can tell you right now, how many hairs are on your head. My jaw drops open just thinking about it!

Psalms 8:3-4 says: “When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him?”

Truly, I am in awe of this God Who knows us all, and wants us to agree with Him. And I often ponder this verse knowing my own condition and the things that I have done and do to offend Him. I often ask why… but the only answer I can come up with is because He chose me, just as He has also chosen you. Did you know that?

He chose us first, and then sent His Son to show us. You all know the verse in John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”  But have you read the verses that follow, John 3:17-19? “For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil.”

See, Jesus came to give life, eternal life. He does not condemn, because we are condemned already by OUR CHOICE, because we have not believed. The last sentence says it all, we love darkness rather than light because what we do is evil! The flesh does love evil… but it is the choices we make condemn us! SO what do you do about that?

Well… let’s just step back to two verses right before this section, John 3:14.  “And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up,” you might be asking what that means. I will refer you to the story this refers to in Numbers 21:4-9. It is a short story click, here to read it.

You see, the people who did not look to the serpent died. It was too simple for some, too simple because it was foolish. Too foolish, because it required faith! How silly to look at some bronze snake on a pole to be cured of a fatal snake bite! Why was this old story recorded and why was it referred to by Jesus Himself?

The answer lies in the next verse, John 3:15. I will put both verse 14 and verse 15 together, John 3:14-15 “And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life.” (Emphasis mine)

That is all that is required, you must look to the Son of Man lifted up, that is Jesus on the cross who carried the penalty for all the sins in the entire world, ever… past, present and future! Matthew 27:45-46 says “Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land until the ninth hour. And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” that is, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” This is the precise moment in ALL OF ETERNITY, that He took your punishment, my punishment… the entire punishment for all sin, ever! Then He cried “It is finished!” This declaration is the exact same phrase in Greek that is written on a debt note when it is paid in full! Our sin debt was paid in full!

But…. remember John 3:14-15, to get the benefit of this escape, you must look to Jesus, and Him alone. John 14:6 makes it perfectly clear there is only one way… and in Jesus’ own words in John 10:1, ”Most assuredly, I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door, but climbs up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber.”

If you choose to look at Jesus as your only Way to salvation… here is what you need to do. Romans 10:9 says “that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” A few verse later, in Romans 10:13 it says, “For whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Yes, it is that simple!

SPACE.com — Sun Surprisingly Active During Low Point in Cycle

October 15th, 2009

I find this interesting this interesting in light of the fourth bowl judgment spoken about in Revelation 16. Could the next predicted Solar Maximum be a part of God’s judgment on Earth?

Only God knows now.

Could God have planned it this way?

Absolutely!

Will it happen this way?

I don’t know. But, think about the planning… only the infinite Creator God of the universe could have foreseen, and even created the circumstance for something like this.

“Yes, Lord God the Almighty, true and just are your judgments!”

My Way News – Obama calls for $250 payments to seniors

October 15th, 2009

Hey, hey, what do you say… let’s buy off the seniors. They won’t care that we are cutting Medicare if we give them some cash now!

What a farce… I wish I could run my budget like this! But then I know I will have to pay the piper eventually… and that I become enslaved to my creditors.

But what the heck, it’s the American way!

I love to read his irregular postings and musings. It is a rather breath of fresh air, considering he is a college professor.

There is hope, that our institutions of higher learning have not been completely infested with teachers devoid of morality!

Enjoy!

"Not Evil Just Wrong"

October 14th, 2009

This is a documentary rebuttal of “An Inconvenient Truth,” the progressive propaganda piece from Al Gore blaming all kinds of catastrophe on hyped “science.”

For thinking people like me… when I hear the phrase the science is settled because a majority of scientists agree… that makes me wonder if Copernicus was right after all. Of course he wasn’t… we know better now, but do we really?

The Physical Return of Christ

John Piper with three different biblical scholars each holding one view of when the return of Jesus happens. For those in the know… the discussion is hosted by a Calvinist… with a pre-, a- and post-millennialist.

The video is long but presents the crucial sides of all three arguments. I see the post- and a-millennial arguments week… that is only because I am a pre-millennialist! I have watched it in entirety and my views are not changed.

It has been brought to my attention there is a fourth view… pan-millennialism… that is the belief that it will all pan out in the end!

To really understand this… I think you need to forget eschatology! The only question I have in that has never been asked in the whole discussion… When was/will Babylon be uninhabited forever?

This pastor seems to have a handle on the deeper evil that pervades today’s politics. Most things he says is right-on… however, sometimes he will dabble in some shady gossip.

When you consider all that is happening on the world stage today, you tend to see conspiracy everywhere. The media seems to not want to investigate things too deeply on the ruling elite, while tending to cover up or deny embarrassing items for these same elite! Have you ever asked yourself why?

While I am not one to jump on the conspiracy bandwagon, I do know that there is someone working behind the scenes in all of this. He is the one who is orchestrating all of this. It seems there is an intelligence or central control behind everything we see happening today. The world is quickly marching to an end. The stories are being crafted and created at the fringes and are slowly being swallowed by the public as a whole. This is a spiritual war being fought spiritually and temporally.

I think this man speaks quite clearly for himself.

The Hon. James David Manning, PhD has a show that airs every day. He is also pastor of  ATLAH World Missionary Church.

Ah… the lost art of the apology! Here we go with a modern version of what passes for an apology:

“I shouldn’t have done it in the manner in which I did and for that I apologize for any offense he, or others, may have taken,” Johnson said.

What is wrong with this apology you might ask?

Well… at first the person who offered the apology seems to acknowledge the offense. But… it is when the apologist uses words like if or may that become the problem. These words provide “wiggle room” or better yet, cover.

A true apology will acknowledge the offensive behavior, period. It will not be couched in terms like “if I offended.” If someone is offended, you offended them! But simply presenting a straw man argument for an apology does not make it a true apology.

A true apology comes from the heart and acknowledges the incorrect, harmful behavior that HAS occurred.  The apology needs to further ameliorate that behavior through making amends and restitution.

What passes for an apology these days, is more times not, but only a “hedging of bets” to cover one’s hind-side (just in case it’s needed!)

Really!
