What is it About the Tea Party Movement?

February 18th, 2010

Some of the sweetest words printed in any English language document are “Congress shall make no law…”

There is much debate whether the United States is a Christian nation or not. Frankly, I do not care. I know that among the founding fathers there were strong Christians. There were others who had a foundational knowledge of Christianity and a healthy respect for God.

The tyranny of King George forced these men to make a decision, one they did not make in haste. All knew the cost… it could be their lives and fortune. When they met at the First Constitutional Convention, it was Benjamin Franklin who suggested they open the meeting with prayer. This was no ordinary prayer, it lasted three hours! How many of us could sit through that?

When they crafted the Constitution, they knew firsthand the tyranny of a government of the elite. They also knew the great conflict to the other extreme, the God given liberty of the individual. The form of government they crafted was somewhere between these two extremes.

They also knew there must be a moral component to government, since government was bestowed upon men by God. They carefully chose words and crafted the Constitution of the United States. It would be this governing document to which ordinary men would give fealty. It was this document that created a nation governed by laws and not men. A nation founded on a document that constrains elitists from imposing their will upon us.

We come to a crossroads… They say that those who do not heed the lessons of history are doomed to repeat them. We live in a time where those who find themselves in the service of government make every effort to destroy the Constitution. It is not just mere words on paper, but an ideal that nurtured humanity’s free spirit. This freedom created an atmosphere of creativity and accelerated ingenuity, and arguably the greatest nation on Earth!

It is these times we find ourselves at a crossroads similar to those that preceded the Civil War. The two party system then consisted of the Whigs, the materialistic party of westward expansion and fiscal responsibility. The other, who purposed continuation of slavery at all costs, was the Democratic Party.

In the Presidential election of 1856… the Democratic rallying cry was “Anybody but Pierce!” (Sound familiar?) After the election, the Whig party disintegrated, mainly over the morality of slavery. The fledgling Republican Party formed to fill the void.

It was in the next presidential election of 1860… the same pressures of tyranny that the founding fathers quenched had again made inroads into the governance of this nation. This time the tyranny came in the form of the morality of slavery. The controversy threatened to rip the heart from this nation. A young lawyer from Illinois, Abraham Lincoln, the fledgling Republican party candidate for president understood the foundation of the Constitution.

It was on 15 October 1858 at his last debate with Democratic Party candidate Steven Douglas that he said…

“It is the eternal struggle between these two principles — right and wrong — throughout the world. They are the two principles that have stood face to face from the beginning of time; and will ever continue to struggle. The one is the common right of humanity, and the other the divine right of kings.”

This is the delicate balance the founding fathers enshrined in the U.S. Constitution. Does the Constitution constrain the elite from foisting their ideas upon individual men?

Abraham Lincoln knew the only answer was to abolish tyranny in all of its forms. He continued…

“It is the same principle in whatever shape it develops itself. It is the same spirit that says, ‘You toil and work and earn bread, and I’ll eat it.’ No matter in what shape it comes, whether from the mouth of a king who seeks to bestride the people of his own nation and live by the fruit of their labor, or from one race of men as an apology for enslaving another race, it is the same tyrannical principle.”

Yes, Lincoln knew tyranny. His supporters also knew tyranny. When there is no morality, then all things are permissible. It was this Republican Party that espoused the idea that everyone is entitled to the fruits of their own labor. Lincoln was elected President in 1860.

The Democratic Party and its leaders in the south, broke a national compact and stole states from the United States, creating the Confederate States of America. Lincoln’s only choice was to declare war to keep the Republic and further the moral truths imprinted upon our hearts by God Himself. Eventually right prevailed, and the Confederacy conceded defeat and the nation began reconstruction, but not with a massive loss of life!

As the nation began to heal, the Democratic Party continued to perpetuate the tyranny of elevating one man above another, the Republican Party furthered the moral fight by limiting; and ultimately extinguishing slavery.

It is today where we again find ourselves at a crossroads. We must ask, do Abraham Lincoln’s words transcend time and mean the same as they did then?

You betcha! That is precisely what guides the Tea Party today.

It is the Republican Party that recently has found itself a party of materialists devoid of a moral compass. Since, there already exists a party devoid of morality; it has been around since the inception of this great nation. It is because the Republican Party that wants to emulate the Democratic Party by seeking to deprive men of the fruits of their own labor and bestow them upon another who has not earned them.

This Tea Party movement is an assembly of regular individual Americans who believe as the founding fathers. They want to steer the governance of this country back to the foundation document, the Constitution. Some call the Tea Party a third party… it may well be, but so is the Republican Party. The Tea Party movement is helping to correct the course of the party of morality and thus correct the course of this nation. Those Republicans who choose otherwise should graciously step aside… but, it is the Tea Party that does not need the Republican Party.

Perhaps there is an older lesson in history that our founding fathers, and Abraham Lincoln knew about. It is a lesson God wanted the nation of Israel to learn. We would do well ourselves to heed the instruction given to us by the One Who created governance in the first place. Do we do it His way, as a nation who owes fealty to the law, or one who bows to a king?

Read it for yourself in 1 King 8:1-18…

“When Samuel became old, he made his sons judges over Israel. The name of his firstborn son was Joel, and the name of his second, Abijah; they were judges in Beersheba. Yet his sons did not walk in his ways but turned aside after gain. They took bribes and perverted justice.

Then all the elders of Israel gathered together and came to Samuel at Ramah and said to him, “Behold, you are old and your sons do not walk in your ways. Now appoint for us a king to judge us like all the nations.” But the thing displeased Samuel when they said, “Give us a king to judge us.” And Samuel prayed to the Lord. And the Lord said to Samuel, “Obey the voice of the people in all that they say to you, for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected me from being king over them. According to all the deeds that they have done, from the day I brought them up out of Egypt even to this day, forsaking me and serving other gods, so they are also doing to you. Now then, obey their voice; only you shall solemnly warn them and show them the ways of the king who shall reign over them.”

So Samuel told all the words of the Lord to the people who were asking for a king from him. He said, “These will be the ways of the king who will reign over you: he will take your sons and appoint them to his chariots and to be his horsemen and to run before his chariots. And he will appoint for himself commanders of thousands and commanders of fifties, and some to plow his ground and to reap his harvest, and to make his implements of war and the equipment of his chariots. He will take your daughters to be perfumers and cooks and bakers. He will take the best of your fields and vineyards and olive orchards and give them to his servants. He will take the tenth of your grain and of your vineyards and give it to his officers and to his servants. He will take your male servants and female servants and the best of your young men and your donkeys, and put them to his work. He will take the tenth of your flocks, and you shall be his slaves. And in that day you will cry out because of your king, whom you have chosen for yourselves, but the Lord will not answer you in that day.”

Will we be like the Israelites who forsook God by crying for a king?

State of the Onion

January 28th, 2010

POTUS gave his State of the Onion address last night. It went something like this:

blah blah blah Bush’s fault blah blah lecture blah health care is what America wants blah blah I am arrogant and do not listen blah blah we need to drill offshore and build more nukes blah blah mare bailouts blah blah bigger government blah blah repeal DADT and let gays serve openly blah blah you people need to listen to me because I know what you need and will do it to you and your great grand children’s grand children blah blah blah.

About the only thing that surprised me was his call for offshore drilling and building more nuclear plants. We need nukes to get off the middle east oil addiction, but it will be ten to fifteen years before any new nuke plants go online. Federal regulation is the main thing responsible for the long lead time for this. The radical environmentalist fringe is also good at keeping this completely carbon free energy source form becoming reality. Not that I care about the man made climate change hoax, even though BO proclaimed it was still reality in his speech.

Offshore drilling is all well and good, but what we really need to tap into is the reserves on the coastal region of ANWR. No, not in those pretty flower filled meadows the environmentalists show in their propaganda. The part of ANWR that looks just like Prudhoe bay, which coincidentally is just a few miles down the shore, where the oil pipeline head is.  By the way, the pipeline is nowhere near capacity, so any new oil would be welcome.

Another place we need to be drilling is the Bakken oil formation in North Dakota and Montana. Tapping this formation alone could make us independent of the middle east oil fields controlled by violent repressive regimes that think human rights means sharia law and believe women are simply cattle.

Except for the energy blurb he gave that will be stomped on by the enviro groups the left includes in their power base, the speech was another example of how the Progressives that have taken over the Democratic party simply refuse to listen to what Americans want: small government in Washington that does not suck the life blood from the country.

That is obviously something that has to be done by American citizens demanding candidates that truly feel their pain and believe that the federal government has to be scaled back in a massive way. A second goal that is just as important is to root out the Progressive influence in education, the courts and the media that has worked for years to change history, deny God and dumb down the populace.

Do you truly believe America can and should be great again? Pray a lot. Get involved in politics. Join the local tea party movement. Consider running for government. If you cannot run, work to elect candidates that share your values and want to fix the problem that Ronald Reagan talked about in his first inaugural address:

government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem.

That is more true today than it was in 1981.

Glenn did not tell the half of it!

January 23rd, 2010

I watched the Glenn Beck show last night in eager anticipation of something that would make my head explode. His documentary “Revolutionary Holocaust : Live Free or Die” did not tell the half of how many Communism killed in the 20th century.

In fairness, I have to say he did a good job and hit the bullseye on the target he was aiming for. He had four main points:

  1. Nazi facism was based on left wing socialist philosophy
  2. Communism and socialism killed millions of people
  3. Che was a really horrible person that would have killed most of the people that wear his t-shirts and belt buckles and bikinis today
  4. Progressives revere Mao and Che and work for president Obama

Nazi is a contraction of National Socialism. Progressives try to foist off Hitler as a right wing movement to bash Conservatives. Nothing could be further from the truth. Glenn did a good job of exposing this lie. He connected the eugenics movement that Hitler acted out with the left wing intelligentsia of the day. Glenn glossed over the other people, besides 6 million Jews, that Hitler tried to exterminate, such as the Romany (aka gypsies), homosexuals and dwarfish, mongoloid and other ” physically defective” people. He also did not talk about how popular abortion was in Nazi Germany, just like the Progressives push here at every chance. He did talk about how Hitler supported socialized medicine, the welfare state and centralized control of businesses like they are pushing here today.

Glenn told about the horrible famine in the Ukraine forced by Stalin where seven million or more died. He skipped from there to some of the incredibly brutal mass murders that Mao did. Sure, Mao killed more than 70 million Chinese, but Stalin killed a lot more than “only” seven million Ukrainians. Glenn totally missed all the “purges” that Stalin did, where he gathered people, basically at random” that he considered enemies. He shipped probably twenty million people to his work camps (gulags) in Siberia and elsewhere. These political prisoners were worked to death in massive projects like moving riverbeds with shovels and wheelbarrows. It is estimated that Stalin killed over twenty five millions, not just the seven million Ukrainians.

You can hear about what mass murderers such as Stalin and Mao did in detail in documentaries on the History Channel, among other sources. Glenn only scratched the surface when it comes to the atrocities committed by followers of Marxist philosophy.

Do we really want a president who wants to “fundamentally transform America” into a socialist country run by dictators like Hitler, Stalin and Mao?

True power does not come from the barrel of a gun.  It comes in the ballot box. Pray and repent of your apathy that allowed this problem to come up. Register and vote later this year. Get involved in politics. Get to know the candidates to make sure they hold to the conservative, small government principles you hold dear. Then vote them in and vote out the bums, the republican progressives and democrat progressives, that have created the mess America is in today.

Progressivism is totally un-American, despite the cheerful way Hillary talked about it. Progressives at all levels of government need to be rooted out and replaced. We can take our country back.

Science and Religion… are they the same?

December 10th, 2009

For those who are paying attention, have you noticed a pattern lately?

It seems that those cartoons I grew up on, where a certain villain wanted to take over the world, were prognostications. In this case, though, there isn’t any one particular “person” who is doing this.

However, there does seem to be a concerted effort, everywhere, to harness the political will of the world in one entity. And with that, control everything you and I do.  I am continually astounded at how fast things are happening.

There are hints appearing daily, and all seem to be small pieces to a larger puzzle. Starting with the engineered recession in 2008, leading to TARP. Then came G-20 and global socialism, followed by single-payer health care, cap and trade, and now climategate. The latest revelation is from a scientist stepping forward declaring a concerted push of what really is a  religion. This scientist, a hurricane expert, rips anthropogenic global warming saying, “There has been an unrelenting quarter century of one-sided indoctrination.

You can also find a push for worldwide population control. Now other countries have joined China’s call for a one child policy! The ultimate goal is controlling every aspect of your life! Perhaps, the boogieman is real, and he is pulling the strings. Your life and your freedom is at stake!

Who is this boogieman? Well, funny thing, in Islam, part of the purification ritual is to rinse your nose out in the morning and before prayer, this is called Ablution. This is  because Islam teaches that Satan dwells up in the nose overnight!

Yea, I do believe Satan is real… and I also believe he is the mastermind!

Consider this… Lazy, duped American voters choose ”progressive” politicians because of the promise of goodies from a “benevolent” government. It is fitting, that they choose their own SLAVEMASTERS and willingly indenture themselves! What is more shocking is that they have purchased their own shackles, by supporting progressive environmentalist and animal rights groups with their own hard earned treasure in the name of benevolence.

It is ironic, and perhaps, just. But amidst all of this I am saddened.  Saddened, because in this, they have rejected their own freedom. Worse yet, they have willingly and blatantly rejected God’s provision of righteousness for themselves, Jesus! (John 3:16-21)

So I ask… Are you tired of the lies?

Have you reject eternal life all for more leisure and a season to sin?

Did you know… That work is also a gift from God? (Genesis 3:17)

Are you prepared for the certain future of a tyrannical one-world government?

Behold… He says He is coming quickly! (Revelation 3:20; Revelation 16:15; Revelation 22:7,12,20)

Repent, that is change your mind. Reject the lie (Genesis 3:4-5,) that you are your own god. Trust Jesus as your only salvation as you would trust a parachute as Paul says in Romans 3:21-26

Christmas… Should Christians Celebrate a Holiday that May Have Pagan Roots?

November 30th, 2009

This is a question many Christians have asked themselves. In this sermon consider…

We are assembled this day to celebrate the nativity of the Son of God. The theme is one full of wonder, of instruction, and of comfort.

We celebrate in December and some have said that Christmas is indeed pagan. There have been many other sermons given through the years that question whether Jesus could have been born in the winter season. I never really gave it much thought. Until 25 or so years ago, my pastor at the time, Richard Schermerhorn, gave a sermon. In it, he made a clear case for Christ’s birth having occurred on or around the time of year we celebrate it.

This sermon, preached on Christmas Day in 1844 covers the pagan roots of the holiday and the difference between ”high church” (read liturgical) and ”low church” read informal celebrations. I also contains some timeless wisdom… especially since the exact arguments are tried today!

If we remember…

It commends Christ to us as a perfect Savior. As a Redeemer. We need one who can suffer in our stead; one who can make a satisfaction to divine justice; one who can be a “mediator between God and man,” [1 Timothy 2:5] “a days-man betwixt us, that might lay his hand upon us both,” [Job 9:33] This qualification the Son of God acquired by his assumption of flesh.

It is a great thing for us because He did assume flesh!

For me and my house… we commemorate the day to the Lord!

A Time for Choosing – 45 years later

A Time for Choosing

by Ronald Reagan

October 27, 1964

To a significant degree, Ronald Reagan’s election to the presidency stems from this speech, given on national television on behalf of, and sponsored by, Barry Goldwater’s 1964 presidential campaign. The speech remains amazingly fresh as a statement of modern American conservative philosophy four decades after it was delivered.

Thank you very much. Thank you and good evening. The sponsor has been identified, but unlike most television programs, the performer hasn’t been provided with a script. As a matter of fact, I have been permitted to choose my own ideas regarding the choice that we face in the next few weeks.

I have spent most of my life as a Democrat. I recently have seen fit to follow another course. I believe that the issues confronting us cross party lines. Now, one side in this campaign has been telling us that the issues of this election are the maintenance of peace and prosperity. The line has been used “We’ve never had it so good.”

But I have an uncomfortable feeling that this prosperity isn’t something on which we can base our hopes for the future. No nation in history has ever survived a tax burden that reached a third of its national income. Today, 37 cents of every dollar earned in this country is the tax collector’s share, and yet our government continues to spend $17 million a day more than the government takes in. We haven’t balanced our budget 28 out of the last 34 years. We have raised our debt limit three times in the last twelve months, and now our national debt is one and a half times bigger than all the combined debts of all the nations in the world. We have $15 billion in gold in our treasury–we don’t own an ounce. Foreign dollar claims are $27.3 billion, and we have just had announced that the dollar of 1939 will now purchase 45 cents in its total value.

All the words could be spoken today and would have context in our current political climate!

Progressivism… liberalism… communism… whatever its name, it is tyranny nonetheless. To stand against these takes real courage and stamina.

Rest in peace, President Reagan!
