I have a hang up…

January 8th, 2011

Some of my friends wonder why I am so hung up on the creative work of God, rather than talking about grace and the fact that He saved us from our sins.

The fact is God reveals himself a little bite at a time. If you cannot get past the fact that this universe was created by God, you could not care less that he died for your sin. If God did not create this universe, if in fact their is no God required to explain why we exist, why should you believe that you have any sin that would offend a righteous God that does not exist in the first place.

Our entire culture is inundated with propaganda aimed at convincing people that evolution is a proven scientific fact. Nothing could be farther from the truth.  The evidence that the universe was designed is overwhelming. The media loves to ridicule people of faith. They call it “blind faith”, all the while conforming to the consensus view that there is nothing besides the natural universe. Science used to be a search for a true view of how things work.

Today, the scientific view is focused on finding a completely naturalistic explanation for everything. People in the scientific community are shunned or even fired if they do not toe the line of naturalism. Every now and then someone says something like “it almost appears to have been designed…” but then they start with the fancy footwork and back away form that statement. If the founder of Scientific American was alive today and writing, his own magazine would not publish his work. Because he believed in a creator.

Scientists have a for years clung to the “fact” that the speed of light was a constant. Twenty years ago Barry Setterfield and Trevor Norman tried to publish research that showed that the speed is light is slowing down. They were almost published but the publisher found out they believed in a creator and pulled the paper. For years they tried to get their views published and examined by their peers. Nada. Zip.

Curiously, twenty years after they tried to publish, scientists that are not tainted with the odious smell of “blind faith” are publishing papers saying the speed of light is slowing. Do any of these scientists have the class to give Setterfield and Norman any citations for earlier work? Nada. Zip.

I could go into a discussion about how other “constants”, like the fine structure constant, alpha, has been suspected of changing. How String theory says that the universe is actually composed of ten or more dimensions, only four of which we can actually sense and measure.  How length, time, energy, everything, come in packages of  a minimum size. How if something is smaller than that size it loses “locality” and becomes everywhere at once. Read “Inconstant Constants” (Scientific American, June 2005) for your self. They conclude that this universe is just a “shadow of a much larger reality”.  Really? The bible has been saying that all along.

Bishop Paley, around 100 years ago, had an argument that anyone could look at his watch and know that it was designed, could not designed that the hand that carried the watch was much more complex and had to be designed as well. His detractors replied that this argument only applied if living organisms were in fact machines. 100 years of microbiology and other research have shown that in fact living cells are machines composed of millions of intricately arranged atoms. Bishop Paley wins, evolution loses.

Don’t take my word for it. Don’t take your teacher’s word for it either. Investigate for yourself. Find out how bankrupt the religion of evolution is for yourself. Then taste God and see how delightful he is. If you can get past the first hurdle of truth, God will give you some more truth.

Judge Rules That Yodeling Offends Muslims

December 15th, 2010

Hmm… it seems that the world is quickly succumbing to the pressure of Islam.

But what gets me can be found in the following quote from the article.

Unfortunately for Helmut G., his neighbors were in the middle of a prayer when he started to yodel. The Kronen Zeitung reported that he was fined 800 Euros after judges ruled that he could have tried to offend his neighbors and ridicule their belief.

Did you see it, too?

They fined this guy 800 Euros because HE COULD HAVE TRIED to offend his Muslim neighbors. Not that he did, or that he meant to do it… just that HE COULD HAVE TRIED!

Where is reason and rationality?

Joy Behar Lectures Joel Osteen About Homosexuality

November 17th, 2010

Bah! I am no fan of the cackle-fest known as the view. The so-called television show is just more evidence of the rope of sand that is liberalism, women’s lib, relativism, naturalism and, quite frankly, television, too!

On 17 November 2010, the pastor of the United States’ largest church, Joel Osteen waffled and wiggled under pressure. It seems that when he is asked any tough questions, he wiggles into namby-pamby land!

Well co-host Joy Behar asked Osteen about his quasi-Christian beliefs on the matter of homosexuality. Osteen, on a previous show of the cackle-fest, commented about homosexuality not being “God’s best” for any person’s life.

Osteen, in character on tough questions, offered a tepid response. But then, Behar interrupted him and lectured him that homosexuality is natural. “It’s not a choice, Pastor,” she chided. “It’s not a choice, and therefore I don’t think that God would look askance at homosexuality in that way, because it’s not a choice. They’re born this way, people are born this way.”

Hmmm… here is the problem. Most people think that we Christians are anti-homosexual. Well, not quite… we are anti-sin.

While most people will trot out those verses that claim homosexuality is an abomination, here are a few I would like to trot out. First:

Matthew 7:3-5 – “Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? (4) Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? (5)You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.”

We all know about judgment and we can all quote Matthew 7:1 by heart. But perhaps what you have never read is the vereses that follow, including the above.

While I do understand the temptation that the homosexual has to contend with, there is hope! 1 Corinthians 10:13 says that there is no temptation that is not common to man. Guess what?

There is hope! That verse also says when you are tempted, God will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it. Now that is a promise!

But for the rest of you… the curse under which those who commit sexual sins, in my estimation of what the bible says applies to all of us.

Yeah, read on:

Proverbs 6:16-19 – “There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to him: (17) haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, (18) a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, (19) a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers.”

As I read it… we are ALL ABOMINATIONS in God’s eyes. Do you think not?

Check out Proverbs 12:22… Yup, that includes all of us. Even Ms. Behar.

Science Discovers Global Warming Causes Global Cooling

November 16th, 2010

*Snicker*

For those new to the “debate,” oops! My bad! I forgot… the debate is over! After all, consensus science says so.

Anyway, when science has a consensus on anything, the effects can be dangerous (see Eugenics.) Man made global warming is now the new global cooling.

The good thing about science is the same as what is said about the weather in Florida. If you do not like it, stick around for 5 minutes or so and it will change!

Pastor Troy Gramling – 9 Minutes to Share 1 Thing

November 5th, 2010

Hmmm… stumbled upon this today.

I got a few immediate observations and it’ll take us about 1 minute to go through them.

Look at 1 Thessalonians 5:22.

Abstain from every form of evil.

The skull and crossbones does it for me. It is not very attractive, and immediately connotes evil, it screams STAY AWAY! I know it’s popular, but these things have sinister meanings. Is this attractive and approachable, or worse, just trying to be relative to the culture?

And while we are on that subject, Romans 12:2.

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Leader, especially pastors should especially heed the admonitions in scripture against conformity and evil, just saying. This includes personal decorum and MODESTY so as NOT to bring undue attention to yourself.

We have become so “seeker” sensitive, we have lost biblical discernment. (BTW Romans 3:11 says there is no such thing as a seeker.) We have forgotten to look in the mirror God gives us… His Word, and then APPLY it to our lives, including our dress!

It is an interesting case study in subtle yet evident personal pride and conformity, considering the subject of the video. This is exactly what Jesus warned us about in Matthew 24:24 and Revelation 3:17-18.  There is a subtle attack on the church, and it is coming from everywhere, but the most pernicious subtlety is from the inside. Paul said this subtle attack would come from leaders in the church.

But I am afraid that as the serpent deceived Eve by his cunning, your thoughts will be led astray from a sincere and pure devotion to Christ. For if someone comes and proclaims another Jesus than the one we proclaimed, or if you receive a different spirit from the one you received, or if you accept a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it readily enough. Indeed, I consider that I am not in the least inferior to these super-apostles. Even if I am unskilled in speaking, I am not so in knowledge; indeed, in every way we have made this plain to you in all things. (2 Corinthians 11:3-6)

You’ll put up with it, and before you know it, you will be led astray. Be a Berean. Look in your bibles, see to it that which these “teachers” proclaim, in thought, deed or word aligns with what the Bible says.

But good news, Jesus is proclaimed at 8:30! The question is, which Jesus?

John MacArthur, Joel Osteen is a QuasiPantheist

November 4th, 2010

While John MacArthur uses a lot of different adjectives to describe what Joel Osteen preaches.

I think he forgot one… Pelagian. And I will not hold it against him, but his discernment of the words is spot on!

John MacArthur

Folks… be like the Bereans (Acts 17:11,) do not take what you hear from any pulpit as fact. Search the scripture, see if those things preached are so!

Regardless of the other words used to describe what Joel Osteen says, it all boils down to heresy.

Everything is not Relative!

October 31st, 2010

A couple of acquaintances have recently said to me, in different conversations, “Everything is relative.”

My response was to ask them , “Is that a relative statement?”

It is quite obvious, all is not relative!

Matthew 22:34 –40 “But when the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together. And one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question to test him. “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”

Like the Old Testament Jewish leaders, you may have read these verses and missed GRACE. You complain about all the “bad” things God does, yet you have no absolute reference for good things, other than the revelation innate in all humans. Part of that revelation is that all murder of innocents is wrong. Science has absolutely no accounting for that. It provides no viable, rational, reasonable or even logical explanation for morality.

Those who balk at the so-called atrocities contained in the bible have probably never read, nor less understood THOSE two commandments that Jesus gave in Matthew 22:37-40. The first is to love God with all your heart… the second to love your neighbor.

I could say I do not know about you, but I do. You are human like me, and I know I have not, nor currently cannot, nor have any hope of keeping these two commandments. I will probably even break them as I write this to you!

If you want to pick verses here and there and then be angry at God, you are absolutely free to do so. Mind you, that would be a violation of the two commandments Jesus gave above.

As much as you might love science, there are things that science can never, ever account for… especially good things. There is no scientific reason for good things. But we know good, conversely we also know bad.

Although you may opine that you do not believe that all of us suffer the consequences of Adam’s sin. I want to tell you we do. As humans, AND descendants of Adam, we all die a physical death! We are all cursed by that sin.

Psalm 139… (read all of it please)http://biblia.com/bible/esv/Ps139.1 tells us that the God  we want to know is a personal God. He knows all of our thoughts, I know you may not believe that, but bear with me.

God knows everything about me, he knew it before I was born. He knew the exact day, yeah, the exact moment, I would sin against Him. Yet, lovingly, He still formed me, breathed life into me, and cared for me as He does today.

Let me show you a couple of other passages– to start a foundation. In Job 31-17, Job is in some serious despair.– Job said in Job 3:3-4, “Let the day perish on which I was to be born and the night which said a boy is conceived! May that day be darkness.”

Job laments his birth, this is what he says in Job 3:16-17 “Why was I not hidden like a stillborn child, like infants who never saw light?”

Why didn’t I die in my mother’s womb? “There the wicked cease from troubling, and there the weary are at rest.” What’s he saying? He’s saying, “I’d be better off if I wouldn’t have to face a troubling life–that I would enter immediately into, REST” (emphasis mine.)

In Ecclesiastes 6:3-5 Solomon laments “What’s the point of living two thousand years if you don’t ever enjoy true goodness? You’d be better off a stillborn child.”

But, the Bible tells us sinfulness is not a condition that comes upon people when they are old enough to choose to do evil (I Kings 8:46, Psalm 51:5, Psalm 58:3, Psalm 143:2, Proverbs 20:9, Ecclesiastes 7:20, Jeremiah 17:9, Matthew 15:18, Romans 3:10-11.) It is the condition of the entire human race since Adam and Eve. Everyone born has been born in a fallen, sinful state. That becomes evident as soon as any behavioral choice is made.

Ephesians 2:3 says we are the children of wrath. The bible is clear we are born with this proclivity that will eventually result in our death.

How could we then believe in a God who would seem to prescribe this?

As I see it, it is the human condition! We all must die… but then we all also have a choice!

Consider this…. condemnation is not from God. God has said this, in 2 Peter 3:9 it says that God is not willing that any should perish. Further more, in 1 Timothy 2:4 Paul writes that God’s will is that all should be saved! This says that you are born into existence, destined to die a physical death, YET the will of God is for you to inherit eternal life!

YES, Inherit ETERNAL LIFE!

But, there is another problem…

Revelation 20:11-13 “Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. From his presence earth and sky fled away, and no place was found for them. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done. And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and they were judged, each one of them, according to what they had done.”

This tells US that we all must give account for WHAT WE DO! So we die as a result of the original (Adam’s) sin, but we must be judged by what we do, as recorded in books in heaven.

Let’s read a little further…

Revelation 20:14-15 “Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.”

Did you catch what the real problem is in verse 15?

It says, whoever’s name was NOT found in the book of life, he was thrown into the second death. It is called a second death, because it is not a physical death, but a ETERNAL, spiritual death. All of our deeds are recorded in those books. There is judgment for the works that we have done as they have been recorded in those books. But… regardless of what is the outcome of the judgment, it all comes down to that final book! That book is called the book of life! Why does it depend on whether any of our names are recorded there, or not?

Most people believe it is what we DO that counts FOR US… but the bible is clear… WHAT WE DO CONDEMNS US already (John 3:18!)

So, God knows that we are born into sin, that is to say… born to die, He still chooses for us to go to heaven. But sometime after we are born (and it is a different time for everybody) we CHOOSE to knowingly and WILLFULLY disobey God! Just as Adam did! This is the PERSONAL SIN we become responsible for, that immediately condemns us, and leads to spiritual death, for which we must answer to God.

So, how are we saved from this destiny?

By GRACE!

It may be said, if God takes all the babies that have died to heaven, that would be His grace, because we are destined for that place… BY HIS GRACE ALONE! Right?

But, I ask, how are you saved? Is it by keeping the law and doing good things?

Would it be better… law for babies and grace for you?

Of course not!

You have no more to do with your salvation than a helpless infant! Perhaps this is what Jesus had in mind when He said in Matthew 18:3, “You who go to heaven, go to heaven as little children.” Is there a better illustration of a salvation by grace than the salvation of a helpless infant?

Any true understanding of Scripture yields the reality that all salvation is by sovereign choice by God – through grace, based on nothing that the sinner merits!

So you can choose to focus on the deplorable condition of all mankind, and the evil that is so vividly described in the bible. This evil is a direct result of sin, and sin alone.

The penalty for doing evil, is death. That is what God told Adam in Genesis 2:16-17, and that penalty HAS NEVER changed! He has not changed His mind on SIN, from the beginning of the book until the very end.

Ezekiel 18:20 says, “The soul that sins, it shall die.” Not the soul that is born into sin, it is person who commits sin. That person owes a debt, in fact… We all owe THE SAME debt to God!

Yet… it is by GRACE, AND GRACE alone, provided by HIM ALONE, that we get to ever stand in His presence. That is why it is written in Acts 3:19-20 “Repent therefore, and turn again, that your sins may be blotted out that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and that he may send the Christ appointed for you, Jesus.”

Do understand what this verse is now saying… that if we REPENT… our SINS MAY BE BLOTTED OUT! Colossians 2:14 says that Jesus “cancelled” this debt that stood against us with its compulsory legal demands, and He nailed to the cross!

So, no… all things are NOT relative.

You will die, as a result of Adam’s sin!

And you will die a second spiritual death for what you have done!

But there is an out… Ephesians 2:8-9 says that it is by grace alone we are saved. It also says through faith… What faith?

Ask! (John 4:10!) I tell you this, not to scare you, but simply in hope that your eyes may be opened to the truth.
